The earliest

Eoraptor is the earliest dinosaur that has been found on Earth. It was a Theropod that lived in Argentina during the Triassic period, 228 - 235 million years ago. Eoraptor was first discovered by P. Sereno and his colleagues in 1991, and they described it as a new species in 1993.

Its name, Eoraptor lunensis, derives from the Greek word "Eos" meaning dawn, and the Latin word "raptor" meaning "plunderer", characterization derived from its front, grasping hand; lunensis refers to the place it was discovered, the "Valle de la Luna" (valley of the Moon) (Argentina).

It was carnivore, based on its teeth structure, and an agile hunter that could run fast and manoeuvre effectively.
