The Cypriot Mouflon belongs to a group of wild sheep that are considered to be the ancestors of the domesticated sheep. They may have been imported from Asia to Cyprus by the Neolithic man. The Cypriot Mouflon was almost brought to extinction during the 20th century, but today it is successfully protected.
