Fat-Tail Gerbil, Pachyuromys duprasi

19

Gerbils are rodents adapted to live in dry, very hot conditions. The Fat-tailed Gerbil is the only one with a special adaptation to which it owes its name: it stores fat and water in its tail, in the same way that the camel stores fat in its hump. Its pointed snout shows that it eats insects in addition to plant material.
