Striped Hyena, Hyaena hyaena

A carnivore with very strong jaws. It feeds mainly on carcasses, smashing even the hardest of bones. Today, the Striped hyena can be found in northern and eastern Africa, and in the Middle East, but no more in Europe as it has become extinct. The more familiar Spotted hyena, is limited to areas south of the Sahara.
