The Mediterranean Monk Seal is one of the world’s largest species and the only one living in the Mediterranean. It is one of the six most threatened mammal species in the planet and the most threatened of the european marine mammals. Less than 600 individuals remain in the Mediterranean, most of which live in the Aegean. The main threats to this important species are the degradation of the coastal environment and overfishing.
